What is a Web 2 Newspaper? Qu’est-ce qu’un Journal Web 2?

Gentle Readers, according to Wikipedia the term “Web 2.0” :
« … describes the changing trends in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aim to enhance creativity, communications, secure information sharing, collaboration and functionality of the web. Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development and evolution of web culture communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies. The term first became notable after the O’Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004. Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but rather to changes in the ways software developers and end-users utilize the Web. »
The main characteristic of this new way to used the World Wide Web is the concept of Web-as-participation:
« According to Best, the characteristics of Web 2.0 are: rich user experience, user participation, dynamic content, metadata, web standards and scalability. Further characteristics, such as openness, freedom and collective intelligence by way of user participation, can also be viewed as essential attributes of Web 2.0. »

I would like to show you an example of this in the field of News Papers even if the “paper” is a virtual one until you may decide to print it… I let the semiologists decide if the word “paper” has acquired an extend meaning from the traditional meaning of the physical support of writing made from cellulose pulp to an extended signification of any physical support of wrinting.
The eNews Papers are not the end of the paper [meaning 1] but a smarter way to used it (or not). And now let me talk you about an extremely interesting and well done eNews Paper I founded this week : The Huffington Post, the example of a good Web 2 eNews Paper, founded by Ariana Huffington, choosed number 2 in the Fifty Most Influential “Female” Bloggers in 2008 and in the Times Magazine as one of the most influential poeple in 2006.
Ref.: North x East: Fifty most influential “female” bloggers
In my day-to-day Internet activities I’m often making comments on news paper web sites as well as giving some help and advices in NNTP/S News Groups & Forums about technical issues relatad mainly to Windows, Internet Protocols, Internet Security and Privacy and Firewall rules.
My main source of news are my Rss/Atom Readers (Sage-Too Firefox extension as well as Google Reader) and I try as much as possible to reduce the information overflow with these aggregation tools. Recently I founded, via a surf on StumbleUpon, an article talking about influential women bloggers and, in a “serendipity” way, I also founded was I was not looking for: a well done online source of informations from differents sources in the world, presented in a aesthetic and functionnal interface and, last but not least, allowing not only to comment and share the articles but integrating these well known features with some of the most popular Web 2.0 applications such as Twitter and WordPress.
Isn’t marvellous? May be I’m a very naive person but my today’s discovery make my day.
So we can see this as an example of what is a real Web 2.0 News Paper and how the canadian medias are far from this new way to create and share the information not only by the tools used in the media (remember the infamous ActiveX so-called New Platform of the Société Radio-Canada…) but in the way they see their activities and the relations they have with their audience.
To give you a short overview of the flow of information produced, transmitted and shared with human beeing (which have somethings to do with this process including commenting and acting in the real life) let me recall the principal steps in this process:
Events -> Witnesses -> Reporters -> News Agencies -> Medias -> Journalists and Columnists -> The Huffington Post (as an example) -> Publishing in their Web site including in RSS format -> Updated news feed in their audience aggregators -> feedback of the audience in comments -> republished and shared with an other audience -> making links between poeple over Internet -> last but not least: driving these virtual Internet contacts to real life contacts and activities…
In the case of my Internet activities this is processed this way:
Updating feed in my RSS/ATOM Readers -> selecting the news -> reading the news -> sharing some of them -> comments few ones in The Huffington Post as an example -> automatically post this comment to my WordPress Blog -> updating automatically my FriendFeed RSS feed -> sending an automatic update to Twitter -> Receiving feedback from some of my readers and so on…
This is the Web 2.0 way and that’s the Canadian Medias have to understand. Nobodies will wait or pay event a dime for such retarded old fashion medias when the new medias are here, accessible and allowing to their audience the place they deserved in the information process.
By the way: talking about FriendFeed. I received this morning an email form FF: Robert Scoble in now following my FriendFeed postings… This also make my day. May be, after all, I’m not a “less than nobody” as I’m often viewed by the wild and half-civilised Yahoos of my country, these little vermins allowed by the Nature to crawl at the surface of the earth and the Web.
An example of one of my comments on The Huffington Post autopublished here
Post scriptum: I will published this article in french, my native language, when I feel to do so. This is what the Yahoos of my tribe deserved for their constant and tireless imbecility:
Tribes, I hate you!
